What is the aim?
To build six affordable independent-living units in Violet Town
Why is this needed?
Housing shortages and rental prices have left many in dire need of affordable accommodation. Ageing people need to maintain their links to their community. Accessibility and proximity to services are also crucial in meeting needs.
What are the community benefits?
This will respond to the urgent housing crisis we currently face. Residents will retain connections to family and friends and are able to contribute to the local community. This is vital for social and physical health for residents but also helps contribute to a welcoming and vibrant Violet Town.
Why is this an innovative approach?
- Designed by community for community: These will be safe, adaptable, comfortable, energy-efficient homes well-suited for our ageing population and their evolving needs.
- Designed with sound urban design principles, actively engaging with the local community and immediate residents, while providing private sanctuary and connection to the outdoor environment.
- Residents will remain a vital part of their community
- We will take the worry out of ageing: Residents will have the opportunity to become familiar with VTBNC staff with optional access to home-care packages and day-care programs.
- We already own the land.

Why the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre?
We have been servicing Violet Town with health care provision since 1925. We are governed by a board of community volunteers who know and respect the Violet Town community. We are registered as a charity and have DGR status. We already own the land that these units will be built on.
